Rapid urbanisation and severe housing shortages help explain why informal settlements of self-built housing are widespread in Pakistan today. Failure to ensure an adequate supply of affordable housing has led to the steady encroachment of state-owned and private vacant land for informal dwelling. Urban informality is arguably under researched within the South Asian context, particularly Pakistan. This study considers how everyday life unfolds through various forms of extra-legal, social and discursive regulations in this context of pervasive informality.

Islamabad is sort of a sleepy town. Strange as it is also Pakistan’s capital city. Usually, capitals are bustling and chaotic but not Islamabad. While it may lack a nightlife, big bazaars or a massive foodie scene like in Lahore or Karachi, it makes up with stunning landscape and scenery. It is set against Margalla Hills, which is part of the foothills of the Himalayan mountain range. Islamabad is my hometown.

Whenever I come back to Pakistan, whether it is for a wedding, visiting relatives or a visa change currently doing that , I always fly into Islamabad first before going anywhere else. I always stay at my grandparents place, which is in a very interesting neighborhood. The Margalla hill range is just a few Kilometers behind. The iconic Faisal Mosque is also nearby. Mega Mall Helps Pakistanis Escape Pressures Of Everyday Life

ISLAMABAD: The Azadi March could disrupt everyday life in the capital if it is prolonged or spins out of control because the venue chosen for the march is located in the heart of the city, near educational institutions and government buildings.
